Feet of Faith

"He will keep the feet of His saints" (1 Samuel 2:9)

Our family had decided to go see the sunset Monday February 1st, and walking toward the beach we heard it. The motorcycle that had sped by us had hit the side end of a passenger transport vehicle going into the Ritz Carlton. There were bodies on the ground and anguished voices of pain screaming. I immediately started to pray walking toward the accident, but my husband said, “let’s stop and pray” and we did. After praying,  I knew I needed to go and be with whomever was there. My husband knew I was under the Holy Spirit’s conviction to go and went to be with our teens.  As I approached there were  two young men’s bodies laying on the black asphalt. One young man had three people with him as his condition seemed critical due to the blood loss from his head and his inability to respond. The other young man had a shattered and shredded right leg. A woman was holding a truncate around his upper thigh and someone had put a roll of paper towels under his head. I stooped down on the pavement as the young man was screaming out in agony. Even though he could not move his leg was having spasms and he was feeling the excruciating pain writhe throughout his body. I asked if he would like to hold my hand of which he grabbed it immediately. I stroked his head  while talking to him soothingly. He was asking about his friend whom unbeknownst to him had gone unconscious. I assured him people were helping his friend and asked if I could pray with him of which he welcomed. While praying, the young man appeared to be going out of consciousness. I said, “honey tell me your name” of which he jolted and managed to tell me “DJ.” I proceeded to ask DJ questions to divert his attention away from the circumstances that engulfed him. He was able to tell me he was 22 and was deeply concerned for his friend. He repeated over and over, “I need my friend to be okay.” A woman approached and asked if anyone needed a bottle of water of which I said, “yes!” I used the water to moisten his head and hair as he was sweating profusely continuing to engage him conversationally and holding his hand. Another lady came up and said, “I am a nurse do you need help?’ of which I said, “yes we do!”  I introduced  DJ and she started taking his pulse and asking more questions. Soon after the EMS arrived and as they approached, I knew it was time for me to leave this young man and join my family. As I was walking toward the beach a few people stopped me to ask the condition of the injured men of which I gave them an update and then inquired as to how I was doing. I was thankful I could be there and assist. It was a supernatural divine appointment orchestrated by the Lord to be present with that precious young man, DJ, and his friend. When called by the Lord to do something he more than equips us. Having lost our own son almost 2 years ago in a tragic car accident, had he been alive, I would have hoped another mom, dad or individual  would have held his hand, prayed with him and loved on him giving him the reassurance and love he needed in that moment. As I was walking away, a young man approached me to ask about the two young men. I could tell they were his friends as he wanted to know how bad it was as he was deciding whether to go over to them. I told him it would be best to stay where he was and to pray for his friends as it was not a visual he needed. I was able to love on that precious one too as he stood there distraught and bewildered watching helplessly while his friends suffered. He had just been with his friends and was upset that his friend having been drinking got on a motorcycle to drive. Not only that but neither had  protective gear or helmets. Upon reflecting on the events I was reminded “The Lord takes our situations and illuminates us that He may send us into the night, that He may make us a help to the helpless” (Cowman). Multiple lives were changed in that moment and they will never be the same including mine but I know who holds the future and trust the work and the plans of God. I was reminded that the sorrows we go through are not to paralyze us and make us ineffective but to allow the Lord to use those circumstances to cause us to rise up and let the Lord’s strength be made known. As Graham Cooke said, “there comes a place in Jesus where it is impossible to be fearful, anxious or worried because the trust and faith are so connected to the majesty of God that all we can ever see is His sovereignty.” That is the place I want to reside in until I go home. Love you dear ones!

(We found out both young men were airlifted to a hospital for treatment and appeared to be in stable condition of which I am praising God and continue to pray for their healing as it will definitely be a long road ahead. The driver of the transport vehicle was at fault as he drove in front of the motorcycle but DJ will also be charged since alcohol was involved.)

Lord, thank you for preparing and keeping the feet of your saints in every situation. Help me to seek you, your plans and your will over my own agenda, fear or insecurities. Continue to strengthen my faith and trust in your sovereignty as I want to be the conduit you have called me to be. Let me be willing to go where you call and open the eyes of those I come into contact with to know how far reaching your love is for them. And thank you Lord for using the situations in our lives to reveal more of yourself. In Jesus’ name!
